About this Ivermectin 1%

We are being deliberately plain, because this is the one product on our store where getting it wrong can be fatal. Ivermectin is powerful. Whether it is appropriate for your animal, at what strength, how often, and whether it is safe alongside anything else they take, is a judgement only your vet can make for your specific pet. Breed sensitivity can be deadly
Certain breeds, particularly collies, Australian shepherds and other herding dogs, carry a genetic sensitivity (the MDR1 gene) that means a dose that is fine for one dog can seriously harm or kill another. You cannot tell by looking. This is exactly why dosing has to come from your vet, who can weigh your animal, know its breed and history, and decide.
We do not publish dosing or efficacy claims
You will not find “give this much for heartworm” or “use it for X” written here, on purpose. Telling you how to dose your animal, or what it will do, would be us practising veterinary medicine we are not qualified to practise, and that is how animals get hurt. The label and your vet are the only dosing authority. How to use
Dose by body weight: 1ml at 25kg, 2ml at 50kg, 3ml at 75kg, 4ml at 100kg, 6ml at 125kg.
- Preventative: once a day, every second day for 3 times, then once a week.
- Positive: once a day for a week, then once a week.

Common questions
Should I use this on my dog or cat?
That is a question for your vet, not for us. Do not self-dose your pet. Only use ivermectin on an animal if your vet has specifically told you to and given you the exact dose for that animal.
Why won't you tell me how much to give my pet?
Because telling you how to dose your animal would be us practising veterinary medicine, and a wrong dose can seriously harm or kill a pet. Dosing has to come from your vet, who knows your animal’s weight, breed and history.
I have a collie / herding breed. Is it safe?
This is exactly the situation where ivermectin is most dangerous. Some herding breeds carry the MDR1 gene and can be harmed or killed at ordinary doses. Do not use it without your vet, who can check for this.
Can I use it instead of taking my pet to the vet?
No. If your animal has a parasite, worm or skin problem, your vet can confirm what it is and prescribe the right treatment at a safe dose. Guessing at home is how animals get hurt.
